Music Program
Children at MCHL are taught that their singing voice is essential towards their musical development. We employ the Orff method of music, movement, and rhythmic speech in music education (pre-school/Kindergarten level). We meet the instruments and learn about famous classical composers. Our intent is that children will develop a life-long love for music.
- Games are intended to help the child develop a feeling for becoming part of a group. These games combine activities in speech, music and movement.
- Singing repetition is the key. Pre-school and Kindergarten children love to sing nursery rhymes.
- Listening Experiences offer first acquaintances with pitch discrimination, contrasting timbres (sounds) and lengths of phrases.
- Reading and Writing Music begins with movement games and graphic representation of sounds.
- Instrument playing is not required at this time, however, non-pitched percussion instruments (rhythm sticks, maracas, cluster bells, triangle, hand drum, tambourine, woodblock, claves, cymbals, gong, etc.) are often used in aiding pre-school music education. The teacher may accompany on various instruments to motivate the children for their own playing at a later stage.
Music is an important component in the development of the whole child. Weekly music class provides an opportunity for singing and vocal development, movement, listening, playing of simple instruments, and exploring musical concepts all at a developmentally appropriate level for your pre-school children.
As children sing and play in the home/school environment, they begin to learn that music is valued and is an important part of daily life.
Folk music taken from the rich heritage of generations of music making is the source of most songs, chants and finger plays. Recorded music is chosen and created from a variety of genres and styles.
We provide a holistic and integrated approach to early-childhood music education.
