SUMMER PROGRAM

Summer Program Themes 2011 [PDF]

The MCHL Summer Program is designed for our year round students. Our aim is to provide fun and continuity for our children in a familiar setting with familiar teachers.

The summer program is 10 weeks long, beginning on the Monday after the regular school year ends. These weeks are divided into blocks of time, each with a theme to engage and entertain the children.

These ten summer weeks will still be structured very much like the rest of the year – only on a smaller scale. The morning activities will be related to the theme of the week and the children will continue their lessons in the Montessori environment. Our Montessori teachers will share the teaching responsibilities over the course of the summer. The classrooms will be fully equipped with Montessori materials, as well as special items to reflect the theme.

We are inviting some new and interesting performers to entertain our students and will arrange special weekly events such as breakfast at MCHL and outside water play.

After lunch and recess your napping child will have the opportunity to sleep before joining his or her friends at 3:00 PM. Non-nap children will stay with their teachers in the classroom for more camp like activities. Every day of the week will have a different focus. Each class will select one day for sewing projects, one day for cooking, one day devoted to science experimentation, one as an arts and crafts day and Friday will allow the children to imagine, create and build, using many varied materials.

Beyond 3:00 PM, our Cascades Club goes into full activity mode with daily use of the gym for organized games, yoga, dance and movement, or free play. Children who were napping will also have the same opportunities as the non-nap children for sewing, cooking, science, arts and crafts, etc.

By popular demand, we are again offering a Spanish camp. Lia Revollo will return as the lead teacher. The class will run all summer, 8:45 – 2:45. The camp themes and activities will be similar to the other Montessori classes - only the teacher will speak in Spanish as much as possible. Please note that the Spanish teachers will select those children who seem most interested in the bilingual program, but we appreciate your input if you feel your child would enjoy this class.

Our extended day hours will remain from 7:30 – 6:00 and school only hours will be from 8:45 – 11:45, five days per week.

We are looking forward to our fun-filled summer program! Please contact the office at 703.421.1112 or info@mchl.org to enroll your child.
